Long-term goals can be, well, long term.

It can be hard to maintain your momentum when the end is a long way off. Whether your goal is losing weight, earning a degree, running every day for a year, or something else, the way to stay strong is to celebrate the small milestones.

I have run 66 days in a row. That means I only have 300 days left. That still sounds like a lot, but it’s a lot less than 366, so I’m celebrating. In just a hundred days, I’ll only have 200 left. I’m going to celebrate then too.

Break your goal into small chunks and celebrate every milestone. How am I going to celebrate? Go for a run, of course.

Said no one ever.

Well, Grammar Girl probably said it some time, but the average person, even most writers, don’t like grammar. For most people, it brings back horrible memories of diagramming sentences in school (hopefully, they don’t teach that any more.)

But grammar is important, and something that we should all learn because good grammar leads to good communication and bad grammar leads to Grandma being eaten.

“Let’s eat, Grandma!” vs. “Let’s eat Grandma!”

Poor grandma her life depends on grammar.

Today is National Grammar Day. Celebrate by listening to the Grammar Girl podcast and promising yourself that you will always use the Oxford comma. It’s also fun to look at memes that have awkward typos.

If you truly want to improve your grammar, which is the point of National Grammar Day, check out Grammarly. This proofreading program has a free and a paid version. It isn’t perfect, and you still need to check your work, but it will point out a lot of errors and give ideas on how to improve your work.

Happy Grammar Day! I made a grammar error in this blog. Let me know if you find it.

Benjamin Franklin’s birthday was last Friday.

I talked about some of his fun inventions on Friday’s podcast, and I won’t repeat that here. Instead, I want to expand one of his quotes.

On Facebook, I saw several memes of the following quote.

That is only the back half of that quote. I think the entire quote is much more poignant and meaningful. Plus, it’s a little gross.

Franklin quote

Feel free to share this meme on your social media to celebrate this wise and witty founding father.

I love stuffing my dinosaur.

Happy Thanksgiving. As you prepare your stuffing and prep your turkey, before family and football, why not listen to a thought-provoking podcast? Seth Godin, an insightful person and a marketing guru, has a podcast called Akimbo. In this week’s episode, he talks about Thanksgiving traditions and the power of marketing.

Can I have some blue milk with my dinner?

It was interesting to learn about the history of Thanksgiving and Black Friday. If you think that this podcast is an anti-holiday rant, it isn’t. Seth has a great message. He believes you should enjoy your family traditions because they mean something to you, not because it’s what society expects. I can get behind that idea.

Owls are grateful they are not turkeys.
