The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (a trilogy in five books) is one of the greatest series ever written. I like book one the best, but they all have quotes that make you think and laugh.

The following quote is from book five, Mostly Harmless. If you are wondering what is mostly harmless, it is the Earth, according to the entry Ford Prefect wrote for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, “a wholly remarkable book—perhaps the most remarkable, certainly the most successful book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor.”

“Anything that happens, happens.
Anything that, in happening, causes something else to happen, causes something else to happen.
Anything that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again.
It doesn’t necessarily do it in chronological order, though.”

I don’t know why but I like the pattern that today’s date makes. 1 – 10 – 20. It makes me want to use those numbers to get something done. So today I will finish one task I’ve been procrastinating on, declutter ten items, and work on cleaning my back porch for twenty minutes. Fun!!!

I’ve been having a problem receiving comments on this blog (I do get emails from some readers.) I’m going to work on that today, so I’d love it if you left a comment. Let me know what your 1 – 10 – 20 plan will be. It’s fun to go into the weekend with a smaller to-do list. Or maybe you’ll have your fun today using this plan.

This is the power of we. When we are all writing together, there is less temptation to read a book or do the laundry, so more words get written. That is a good thing. Plus, it’s fun.

You can do something similar. Do you have a project that is languishing? Get a group together and make some progress. Some of my friends like to have a UFO day. We meet at someone’s house and bring unfinished craft projects to work on. They may not all get finished, but they all are closer to completion because of the group mentality.

The less you talk, the more you get done. That is how I write so many words. But if you think time passes more pleasantly when you chat, then go for it. However, if you’re getting nothing done it may be time to move the fingers instead of the mouth.

The holidays are a great time to start a project group or have a UFO party. You can combine getting together with friends and finishing projects. Plus, you might finish some Christmas presents just in time to send them.

I’m going to get back to my writing now. Fifty thousand words won’t write themselves.
